Israel held talks with Finland on participation at a conference on a Middle East free of nuclear weapons, according to a spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

It is expected that the conference will be held in Helsinki in December amid growing row over Iran's nuclear program, which most Western countries believe that it is hidden behind efforts to produce weapons.

The spokesman Yigal Palmor said "Representative of Finland visited Israel recently, but the meeting was not secret, but he was a regular meeting", in reference to the conversations which took place last week between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland "Jaco to Ajava" and Israeli officials, and published the details of the Israeli daily Haaretz.

The spokesman said that "the Israeli side has not made decisions yet (about participation in the conference), but talks are continuing," without disclosing the content of the talks.
